There’s a happy problem that sneaks up on every growing store.
At first, you’re thrilled with every sale. Then the orders keep coming. Then a bigger client asks about bulk. Then you start wondering if you can ship to customers overseas without it costing a fortune or taking three weeks.
And between all that, a worry shows up. Can my setup actually handle this?
That’s exactly what this new integration is here to solve!
Order Desk now connects directly with Digital On Demand. Orders flow through automatically, from the moment a customer buys to the moment tracking lands in their inbox, with no manual steps in between.
Here’s what that actually means for you.
First, a quick intro to Digital On Demand
Digital On Demand (DOD for short) is a print on demand company built more like a production partner than a small print shop.
They make custom products like drinkware, hard goods, and a wide catalog you can decorate with your designs, and they handle everything from a single order to a large branded run for a big company.
A few things they’re good at:
- No minimums. Order one item or ten thousand.
- Fast turnaround. Orders ship in three days or less.
- Local production. DOD has facilities in Massachusetts and the Netherlands, so orders print near the customer instead of shipping across the globe.
- Built for scale. Bulk runs and branded enterprise projects are handled the same way as a single order.
You bring the designs. DOD brings the production line.
How does Order Desk fit into the picture?
Order Desk sits in the middle of your business, between the places you sell and the people who make and ship your products.
Say a customer buys something. That order needs to get from your store to whoever’s producing it. Normally, you’d copy those details over yourself. Order Desk does it for you.
It connects to hundreds of stores, tools, and suppliers, and passes the order along automatically, so you’re not doing it by hand.
That’s where Digital On Demand comes in. DOD makes and ships your products. Order Desk takes each order the moment it comes in and sends it straight to DOD to be fulfilled, without you lifting a finger.
So what does the integration actually do?
When a customer buys one of your products, the order lands in Order Desk. It’s then sent straight to Digital On Demand to be produced and shipped automatically.
Once DOD ships the order, the tracking details flow back into Order Desk and get passed along to your store, so your customer automatically gets their “it’s on the way!” update.
And because DOD handles bigger, more involved orders, the integration gives you some genuinely handy controls:
- Order splitting. If one order needs to be fulfilled in different ways, Order Desk can automatically separate it out for you.
- Smart shipping. Set one default shipping method for everything, or match your store’s shipping names to DOD’s so the right speed is always used. You can even set a default shipping account number.
- Skip what you need to skip. Tell Order Desk to leave certain products out of what gets sent to DOD.
- Folders that keep you organized. Choose which folder orders move into after they’re sent off, and after they’ve shipped, so you always know exactly where everything stands.
You set it up once. It runs from there.
Why this matters for you
The thing about growing a store is that the selling part is what rarely holds people back. It’s the handling. All those little manual steps between a customer paying and a product arriving. The ones that are easy to forget, easy to fumble, and almost impossible to keep up with once the orders really start rolling in.
This integration takes those steps off your plate, and it does it at a scale most setups can’t match.
- No more manual order entry. No copying details from one tab into another.
- Fewer mistakes. When nobody’s retyping addresses and SKUs by hand, far less goes wrong.
- Global reach, automatically. Because DOD produces in both the US and EU, your customers get faster, more affordable shipping, and you don’t have to manage any of it.
- It scales when you do. For one order or one big enterprise run, the process is the same. You stop being the bottleneck right when growth would normally start to hurt.
Basically, you get the muscle of a large fulfillment operation without the usual growing pains. You spend your time on designs, customers, and landing bigger opportunities, and you let the order handling run itself.
How to set it up
It’s quick and straightforward.
Inside Order Desk, go to Manage Integrations, find Digital On Demand under the Print on Demand tab and enable it. You’ll set a webhook URL in your DOD account (that’s what lets DOD send shipment updates back to you), then choose your environment, pop in your DOD API key, and hit connect.
From there, you can pick your folders, shipping preferences, and other settings to match how you like to work.

Once it’s connected, your custom products basically sell, print, and ship themselves, at whatever size you’re ready to grow into.
